After six years of service recording some of the best in Adelaide, Matt Hills has sold Hillside Recording studio to up and comer Alex Upton. Using the space, Upton will be re-opening as of May.
Over social media last night Hills assured he would be continuing his own studio work elsewhere “I will be setting up a mixing and overdub studio set up somewhere soon and continue to record my drums in my favourite room in Adelaide.”
Matt Hills has been responsible for not only live music mixing at much-loved Adelaide venues but recorded un-countable local acts in the West Thebarton studio. We can thank him for such releases as early Wolf & Cub, Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!, and Horror My Friend's A Million Hands EP just to name a few.
Hills was of course the curator of Hillside Fest, which this year saw its biggest event yet with a two stage outdoor set up and hosted our very first feature video. Let us also take a moment to appreciate that if Hillside hadn’t existed West Thebarton Brothel Party might have been Grange Beach Shack Party, or South CBD Office Party.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Matt on behalf of almost every local musician we know for his time, effort and general contribution to Adelaide music so far, and from One & Three for letting a silly girl get her blog off the ground. We wish you all the very best on your next adventure Mr. Hills!
