In his own words, “that was my favourite Adelaide show to date.” L-Fresh The Lion has been to the City of Churches many times before, but Friday’s show at the University of Adelaide’s At The Cloisters was one to remember.
With twelve shows of his national tour still to go, Sydney rapper L-Fresh and his team featuring DJ MK-1 and MC Mirrah powered through their set with iconic, infectious energy.
2016 has been another exciting year for the Aussie rapper, after smashing support shows with Urthboy last June, L-Fresh and team are pouncing for more hype with the release of new album Become, and the remainder of a huge string of shows around the country.
At The Cloisters has become one of Adelaide Uni’s best events, and with a killer setup and even better headline act, this year was always going to set the bar. The enclosed stage area gave the show an entirely intimate feel, and when treated with L-Fresh’s powerhouse vocals and vigour, this was one special night showcasing the best of a more inclusive and modern shift in Aussie hip-hop.
The chilled crowd soon came alive pumping to the hip-hop artist’s older tunes of 'Survive', 'One and Faithful'. L-Fresh was there to share his absolute warmth and energy, with lyrics that encouraged us to listen.
The release of Become has seen L-Fresh continue to grow as one of Australia’s greatest names in hip-hop, and the new material met all expectations. As the set journeyed into newer tracks, L-Fresh and his crew had every one of the small crowd jumping and bursting with positivity to ‘Hold Up’ and ‘Be Cool’, rounding out the show with the darkly cool, ‘1 in 100 000’ and finally the relentless, ‘Takeover’.
L-Fresh’s passion was perfectly backed by his crew, as Mirrah’s hype lit up the stage with huge energy, bounding, dancing and electrifying the whole crowd. Clearly radiating his band’s and crowd’s excitement, L-Fresh’s glowing positivity and deeply personal social commentary made this show a privilege to experience.
