Local genre hoppers, Somnium, who combine elements of blues, garage rock and psychedelica have just dropped their first single from their much-anticipated debut album Omnism.

Tirelessly gigging on the Adelaide music circuit the boys have made a big name for themselves in a small amount of time, giving them the ability to release an album, which will be out in July through Swirl Records. The lead single, Mystical Cookoo, features punchy, catchy guitar riffs mixed in with poignant lyrics on mental health. The song follows a story of a man who is fighting something dark within his head and trying to find all the strength he can to beat it. The opening lines of “there is a demon, living in his head” set the tone for a song that is upbeat and fun musically, but thought provoking lyrically. Just like its lead single, the record, Omnism itself has a deeper meaning. Omnism means; the recognition and respect of all religions, beliefs and creeds. There is no one ruling power, no one way of living or one way of behaving. It’s clear that this catchy psych rock group is much more than just that, and their mix of uptempo rock with their insightful lyrics are sure to be a hit.

The three-piece of local lads have already supported the likes of The Belligerents, Flying Colours, Buried Feather, Orb, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and you can catch them on April the 20th at the Cranker where they will be supporting Perth psych rockers, Psychedelic Porn Crumpet.
