Alana Jagt has been a familiar face in the Adelaide folk scene for a number of years now. Following her quiet disbanding from the popular acoustic duo, Buffalo Boyfriend, the singer-songwriter has taken her old-soul voice and invested it in her solo work. She and her band, The Monotremes, have lifted the best elements of indie-folk and alt-country in a spirited concoction. Flavours of Motown and pop seep through these strong sounds to frame Jagt’s heartwarming harmonies and vivid, emotive lyrics on her forthcoming EP, Wilderness, due for release later this year.
The lead single, 'Lullaby #2', employs a delicate toy piano, melancholic cello with a sneaky slide guitar to accompany Jagt’s soothing, honey-soaked vocals in a delightful indie-folk-pop-rock tune. It’s like a butter menthol for your ears and heart - cozy up and check it out below.
Catch Alana Jagt and the Monotremes at The Grace Emily for the ‘Lullaby #2” single launch on Friday June 2nd. Aaron Thomas Trio and Ryan Martin John are supporting, and it promises to be a folking good time.
“Lullaby #2” is available for download today via the usual suspects.
