Music SA and the City of Adelaide present: Rock The Square - Summer In The City

Words by Freya Langley

Week one of Music SA and the City of Adelaide’s series of lunchtime and early evening concerts – Rock The Square, a showcase of Adelaide’s best and up-and-coming  music talent.  The series of six concerts starts kicks off with some of the freshest, local new-wave indie talent. Appropriately titled ‘Summer in the City,’ the lunchtime concert is the perfect summery escape from the office. Head down to Victoria Square/Tarndanyangga on your lunch break on Thursday to catch two of Adelaide’s best newcomers, Kashaguava and Camp Coyote, the gig promises to brighten your Thursday and carry you through to the weekend with some sunshine and sweet songs.

Having performed alongside the likes of The Murlocs and Amyl and the Sniffers at Punk Ass Kids’  2017 Winterfest, and an upcoming support slot at The Gov for Holy Holy, Kashaguava have come a long way since they formed in 2012. Following a brief hiatus and a line-up reshuffle, the five-piece have burst back onto the local Adelaide scene. Their dreamy, synth-pop, backed by rock guitars forms the foundation for lead vocalist, Jessica Johns’ soaring, mesmerising vocals. Their debut single, ‘FM’, is a dramatic, emotive track, with intricate guitar riffs and echoing synths.

Despite having only formed a year ago, Camp Coyote are already making waves in the Adelaide scene. With an album already in the works for 2018, these young guns are ones to keep an eye out for this year. The talented crew of multi-instrumentalists have a penchant for doing-it-themselves – having recorded their upcoming album at bassist, Brad’s house. With a unique brand of neo-funk and hip hop, the five-piece are making mesmerising easy-listening tracks – with dreamy, upbeat synths and clever lyrics make for a dreamy summer soundtrack.

“Summer in the City” kicks off at 12pm on Thursday 1st of February. There’ll be food trucks so you can ditch the soggy sanga and kick back and relax to the sweet sounds of Kashaguava and Camp Coyote. Rock The Square is a six-installment lunchtime and early evening concert series presented by Music SA and The City of Adelaide, showcasing Adelaide’s best and up-and-coming musicians.
